On Wednesday 23rd September 2009, Pierre painted Pete Doherty live on stage at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom.
Pete Doherty is a British musician, artist and poet. He first rose to fame with
punk band The Libertines in early 2000. Most recently, he has written and performed
with the band Babyshambles and since has gone on to release his first solo album
“Grace/Wastelands”, featuring the single “Last Of The English Roses”. As a result of his well-publicised romantic
relationship with Supermodel Kate Moss, Pete Doherty stories were a tabloid staple throughout 2005.
Doherty is also a published poet and creates artworks using his own
blood.
Pierre views Doherty as an intriguing modern icon sculpted by public and media
interest. Pierre first approached Doherty’s manager Andy Boyd about painting a portrait.
He then spent a few months getting to know the subject, acting as his driver when required. The exact form of the
portrait was not decided upon until Boyd suddenly
turned around to Pierre and challenged him to paint Doherty live on stage during
a gig that was three days away. The challenge was accepted and Pierre completed
the painting during the 60 minute set complete with a saintly halo in sheet metal.
